Kings of Jerusalem, anonymous, c. 1148/59-1187

CRUSADERS. Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. AV Bezant (23mm, 3.74 gm). Imitating the Dinar of Caliph al-Amir. Acre mint? Second phase, circa 1148/59-1187

Cut Gold Piece - probably before 1167

Obverse - Letter A, annulet before, within line border

Reverse - Letter C and V, annulet before C and V, within line border

There is much speculation about this particular piece, and pieces similiar to it. These were large gold coins that were broken into pieces and given to pilgrims for use as offerings.  The legends on these pieces were the names of the Kings (Baldvini, Amalricvs, Bakdvubvs) and the other legend being Jervsalem or Jervasalem Civitas. Reviewing the legend, and the lettering I have, the only legend that has the letters C and V in it is the Amalricvs legend.

It is also suggested that this is actually C and I, in which case this could be almost any of the Kings.
